The fish fauna of the largest Italian lake is very diverse and the restaurants and inns of Brenzone sul Garda are known for the freshness of their gastronomic offer, favoring small local fishermen. Sport fishing has also developed according to this principle and has become a seasonal habit, especially in the sardine season, where the shores of Lake Garda are favored by fishermen. Trout, whitefish, arbor, tench, eel, chub, perch are among the most fished species in the constant search for the true king of Lake Garda: the endemic Lake Garda trout "Carpione" (Salmo carpio).

In recent years, the fishing regulations of all three regions around Lake Garda have been severely restricted to protect the Benacus's most endangered fish species. Stricter catch limits for both professional and recreational fishermen have been introduced.

To practice sport fishing, a fishing license is required, which must be applied for at the municipality of the respective location. Fishing is possible all year round, except in certain periods and fish species. Night fishing is prohibited from one hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise. There are also restrictions on the minimum length of fish caught, catch limits and rules restricting the use of some equipment for sport and commercial fishing. You can get more information directly from the municipality when registering for issuing the fishing license.
